From my favorite maverick U Chicago philosophy prof, Agnes Callard.
Socrates said that philosophy is a preparation for death. For everyone else, there’s travel.

The article makes telling points about most people (I daresay) who travel. However, in the end I disagree. As usual, I disagree with Chesterton, so that's not a surprise. (It's very odd to find him cited so authoritatively in this article.) Well worth a read and a ponder.
Despite the likely delusion of my introspection, travel has definitely changed me, including my life's course.
